  • ¿What is the "Continente" (continent) and the "Contenido" (content)?"
    It is understood by continent the value of one's own dwelling, the edification in itself: Foundation walls, walls, doors, windows and roofs, including adjacent structures such as courtyard, garages, terraces, swimming pools and sports facilities, as well as its fixed installations (heating, water supplies, light, gas, solar panels, etc.). The term content refers to the personal assets, as the furniture (including the fixed kitchen furniture and bathroom), clothes, books, music, objects of furnishing, domestic household goods, electrical appliances, computers and technology, normal jewels, etc. located inside the insured property and owned by the Insured, their relatives or persons living together in the dwelling.
  • ¿ How do I calculate my continent and contents capital?
    To be able to calculate the value of the continent and the price of the insurance, we ask you: type of house, year of construction M2, quality of the house and province where the house is located. The capital is underwritten for the entirety of the dwelling (including the share of the co-ownership fee if this dwelling belongs to a community under a horizontal ownership regime). DKV EcoHogar will pay compensation for the value of the contents at replacement value, as defined in the General Conditions. For this purpose, however, the insured person must prove, with our assistance (as this is his own subjective assessment), sufficient and adequate capital to replace all the items in his home, including fixed kitchen and bathroom furniture, in the event of a claim. Since the fixed kitchen and/or bathroom furniture is part of the household effects, we recommend insuring the household effects with a minimum capitalisation of between 25.000 and 30.000 euros for an average dwelling that is the usual place of residence and is occupied by three or four people.
  • ¿How can I insure jewellery and special valuables?
    > Jewellery (jewels, precious stones, watches, gold coins …): With DKV, you have the advantage that 10% of this capital is included in the household contents insurance for normal or usual jewellery in an average flat. If the value of this jewellery exceeds 10% of the sum of the total contents, but not more than 6.000 euros, this excess can be insured subject to an express declaration and payment of the corresponding premium. Jewellery with a unit value of more than 2.000 euros must also be declared. > Objects of special value: pictures, silver cutlery, sculptures, coin and stamp collections, leather goods, etc. Objects of special value are listed if their individual value or the value of the whole to which they belong exceeds Eur 3.000.
  • ¿What does my insurance cover?

  • I am a tenant, do I need to take out insurance?"
    If you live in a rented house, you should definitely also take out liability insurance to cover damage to the owner's property and third parties (neighbours, etc.). By securing the contents or furniture, you automatically secure it. You should be aware that if, for example, a fire breaks out in the kitchen, in addition to the damage to the house, there may also be possible damage (e.g. smoke) to the community yard or other flats. The insurance companies of these injured third parties or they themselves may hold you liable for the damage caused. Therefore, the most important guarantee you must have is civil liability, and you will have it included when insuring the contents. When you insure the contents of the house, you will have to value your own assets as well as the assets for which you are responsible in the house. In other words, the totality of the goods, including, for example, the fixed kitchen furniture.
  • The house has homeowners insurance. Is it necessary to take out house or contents insurance?
    Of course, if you want to have your house insured. The insurance policies taken out by the community usually cover the common parts of the building, so the parts that are their exclusive property are not insured. Therefore, contrary to appearances, the fact that the community insures the building does not mean that all the parts that make up the building are automatically insured. The furniture must be insured and this is not covered by the community policy. Damage to the dwelling is also not covered under certain guarantees. As if that were not enough, civil liability as an occupant of the dwelling is not covered either. For all these reasons, private insurance is necessary if the occupant, owner or tenant, wants peace of mind and adequate protection for their home and their obligations to third parties.
  • ¿What does my liability insurance cover?
    It generally covers the obligations that arise for us from property damage and personal injury that we cause to third parties. This damage can occur if you are the owner of the house and is insured if you have the continent insured. Example: broken pipes causing damage to the floor below, a tile falling from your family home damaging a parked vehicle, or damage to building floors from an explosion. The household contents insurance also covers your private liability and that of your family living with you, including children, regardless of their age, as long as they have their main residence in the insured home. This also includes acts as head of household, contractor of minor works, sportsman, owner or user of non-motor vehicles, owner of boats, camping, pedestrian, owner of pets or domestic animals, etc.
  • ¿Is liability for my dog included?
    If you have insured the furniture or household effects, you are covered for any civil liability you incur as the owner of the dog, with the exception of dogs that are considered potentially dangerous by law.
  • ¿What should I do in case of an accident?
    If you have had damage and need the services of a professional: a plumber because of water damage, a glazier because of a broken window, or you have forgotten your keys in the house and need a locksmith to open the door, you can (depending on whether you have buildings or contents insurance or both, and depending on the cover you have taken out) use the Home Assistance services that DKV makes available to you 24 hours a day.   • ¿What happens in the event of a claim if my capital is less than the correct amount?
    If you have insured your property at a lower value than it is entitled to (underinsurance), the company may apply the proportionality rule in the event of a partial loss, i.e. you will be compensated in proportion to the capital sums you should have insured. Example: If your goods were insured for 60% of their correct value, the compensation you would receive would also be 60% of what you would have received if you had insured them for 100%. In the event of a total loss, the company will compensate you up to a maximum of the capital insured in the policy. However, DKV applies a margin of tolerance not to apply such a rule if the differences are not obvious.
  • ¿Can I make changes to my policy before it expires?
    Some aspects of your policy can be changed: increase or decrease the capital, include jewellery or items of special value, change the risk situation, etc.
  • ¿Can I have my household insurance paid in instalments?
    When the policy expires or when you take out the contract, you can choose between three forms of payment: annually, semi-annually or quarterly. The resulting net premium per receipt must be equal to or greater than 50,- Eur.
